Bee Season Update: The Barn Is Down, the Honey Is Still on the Hives

Back in March I wrote that the barn shed was gone and that 2026 would look different. It does.

The damaged barn has been demolished. We are starting over, and we are still waiting on a new building. Until that shop exists, there is no honey house. There is no extraction location. The extractor itself was destroyed in the fire.

Barn Fire and What Comes Next

On March 31st, 2026, while I was at work in Orlando, an internet-based smoke alarm alerted me to a fire in our barn shed. Thanks to quick action from family and friends who called the fire department immediately, the situation didn’t escalate further. But I won’t sugarcoat it—the barn is gone. Nearly everything in it is destroyed or damaged beyond use.
